For generations, immigrants have arrived in the United States in pursuit of a fundamental promise: safety for those who need it, and opportunity for those willing to work for it. Today, the National Capital Area is home to roughly 1.5 million foreign-born residents who are delivering on that promise every day by strengthening our social fabric, filling critical workforce gaps, building businesses and families that enrich our community.
The Washington, D.C. Metro Area stands as one of America’s most culturally diverse communities, with approximately 1 in 4 residents identifying as foreign-born. Our region is also home to tens of thousands of individuals and families who cannot safely return to their countries because of war, persecution, or violence.
Founded in 2016 with $4,000 from a GoFundMe campaign, AsylumWorks has grown from a kitchen-table operation into a nationally recognized nonprofit driven by the need to rethink how organizations and institutions work with refugee newcomers. During this time, our work has successfully changed U.S. immigration law, established national best practices, and shaped federal government policy.
Arrived partners with immigrants, their families, and the broader community to create pathways to safety, stability, and opportunity.
Arrived envisions a world where all people, regardless of origin, language or background, are able to fully contribute to the communities where they live, work, and thrive.
Arrived is a trusted national leader in immigrant services. The federal government has recognized us as a best-in-class provider and we’ve trained hundreds of practitioners across the country. That recognition is earned through our unique approach:
Clients define their own goals, building the confidence and momentum to carry them forward after services end. personalize service plans to meet their unique needs.
We don’t just deliver services — we partner with clients to build the skills, confidence, and connections immigrants need to thrive on their own terms.
Coordinated support across legal, economic, and emotional needs so progress in one area reinforces the rest.
Delivered in the languages and cultural contexts of the people we serve by a staff who are largely former clients themselves.
Independent evaluation confirms our services measurably improve clients’ lives.
We’re raising $225,000 by December 31st to help newcomers in our community access the safety and support they need to rebuild their lives.
